Dear SSP families,
FDA review of Pfizer's COVID vaccine for children 6 months to 4 years of age will not occur this month, as expected. The application is delayed until further data is available. We applaud this action.
Currently, available data does not show the same level of protection as we see in adults and children 5 years & up. Pfizer will come back to the FDA when it has appropriate data. At that time, the leading experts in the country will have the opportunity to weigh the evidence and decide if the vaccine is safe and effective for this age group. Vaccine approval is a serious matter, and we are glad to see that the system of checks and balances is working.
COVID vaccine for children 5 and up is safe and effective and remains the best way to avoid serious disease from COVID.
