Part 1: COVID Vaccines - The Process

THE PROCESS:

1. On October 26th the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Vaccine Advisory Panel voted to recommend EUA of the Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID vaccine for children ages 5-11 years. 2. On October 29th the FDA authorized emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11 years, after data showed it is safe and effective in this age group.

3. On November 2nd, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), an independent panel of medical and public health experts, met to formalize guidelines and recommendations for the vaccine.

4. Next, The CDC Director, Rochelle Walensky, signed off and the recommendations were made. after the recommendations are made, leading to administration of the vaccine to our children.

Because the data had shown that the vaccine was safe and effective, at 1/3 of the dose given to those 12+ years of age, mass production had already begun. In addition, plans for distribution were being developed on a national and state level in anticipation for this.

Your Silver Spring Pediatrics team has also started making plans and have requested the opportunity to provide these vaccines to our patients on-site.

Please return to our website late next week to learn more about our plans to provide the COVID vaccine to our 5-11 year old patients.

Please note that we will post up to date information on our website and our Facebook page.

Please refrain from calling the front desk staff as they will be caring for our families who are in the office and require our attention.
